A major achievement has been secured by the public and Salmon Watch Ireland, whose complaint to the EU to remove Section 19(A)4 of the Fisheries Act 1997 has been answered. For 18 years, through a temporary arrangement by the Irish state in consultation with the EU to allow continuation of operations, unlicensed farms have been allowed to operate without thorough environmental assessment.

Five applications for renewal have been submitted this month, and public consultation submissions must be lodged by 15 April 2025. Please reach out if you want support making a submission.

The five locations are:
- East of Inishcannon Island, Inner Clew Bay, Co Mayo
- Southeast of Kinnacorra on Clare Island, Outer Clew Bay, Co Mayo
- Comhlucht Iascaireachta Fanad Teoranta, Kindrum, Fanad, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal
- East of Clare Island, Outer Clew Bay, Co Mayo
- Inver Bay, Co. Donegal
